Mulberry's Revenge
a profanation exercise, a return to the common
Whatever its other aspects, the everyday has this essential trait: it allows no hold. It escapes. It belongs to insignificance; the insignificant being what is without truth, without reality, and without secret, but also perhaps, the site of all possible signification. The everyday escapes. In this consists its strangeness – the familiar showing itself (but already dispersing) in the guise of the astonishing.
- Maurice Blanchot
The series 'Mulberry's Revenge' (2020) is a chapter of 'Profanation Exercises', my latest work in progress, composed by short photographic narratives. In each one I deal with reality in such a way that alters it. Somehow it is an exercise of its deconstruction and reappropriation within a new form. The surrealistic element of sequencing helps me to structure each story. Until now there are three completed compositions, 'Salty Eyebrow', 'Bait for Dragons' and 'Mulberry's Revenge'. Each title, usually generates the process behind the narrative and not the opposite. This is part of a long-term practice, where I collect phrases and strange combinations of words. The final composition of the images become the text I cannot write or express in other forms. The next series in progress has the title 'Carnivorous Tenderness'.
